Brightening Strangers' Weeks

Fact: Monday generally sucks.

Fact: Finding an envelope with a cheery message and some cash quickly decreases Monday's overall suckitude.

That’s the idea behind Give Mondays, which aims to brighten strangers’ days and form a community of givers all over the world.

The process is simple:
  1. Get a blue envelope.
  2. Include an anonymous, kind message. (I’m a fan of “This week is going to be amazing. Also, your hair looks great today.”)
  3. Include some money. (How much you give is up to you.)
  4. Direct the recipient to share a snapshot of the surprise on Twitter with the hashtag #givemondays.
  5. Leave the envelope somewhere a stranger will find it.
I love the simplicity of the idea. I love that it’s quick and easy enough that anyone can join in. And I love that the project targets Monday mornings (because, honestly, if anything can zap a person’s cheer it’s the reminder of another work week) with random acts of kindness.

That is awesome. So, so awesome. What an easy way to brighten someone's day on what is probably the suckiest day of the week. Just wish Monday were today so I could do it!

  3. I know, I thought about the fact that it wasn't Monday but decided it gave people four days to prepare!

  5. I don't know how you find these things, Tracey, but this is awesome!

  6. But the fun thing is that it is more blessed to give than receive: writing the notes and stuffing the blue envelopes of a Sunday night makes the giver look forward to Monday with excitement not resignation.
